What is Teddy Care?
Teddy Care is a mobile app design for children to promotes responsibilities and help children be more active, while distracting them from boredom during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this app, children are given a virtual pet to take care off through physical exercises, games, and virtual food obtain through fulfilling some in-game quests.

What's the Problem?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people went into quarantine to prevent the further spreading of the virus. Because of this, many children were trapped at home bored and inactive. This long period of isolation causes the children to become accustomed to the activities in their home which results the children to become bored and irresponsible.
Here's the Plan
When designing Teddy Care for children, the goal is to promote responsibilities and help children become more active during the pandemic. To achieve this, it was decided the app will be a game where the children will take care of a virtual pet. Being a virtual pet, the children will have to take care of it as if it was it's own pet, giving them a sense of responsibility. To keep it interesting, players will be able to fully customize their virtual pet to make it personal, as well as fulfil some quests to obtain items that will help maintain their virtual pets. By giving the ability to personalize the player's pets, this will give the players more incentive in taking care of their own pet, and achieving quests to obtain items will also provide some activities to occupy the children. To enforce the sense of responsibility, the first screen to appear to the player after opening the app will be a calendar with their virtual pet to greet them and interaction with the calendar to help plan out the month. To maximize the player's interaction and their attention span, I have limited the number of pages the player will need to five, the calendar, home page, chat log, reading activities, and the game. The reading activities is an educational quest for users to practice their reading comprehension skills with questions from the reading, as well as enjoy many stories to choose from. The game will utilize the motion detection functions of the phone to count the number of steps to keep the children physically active. And finally the chat log is for children to keep in touch with their peers during quarantine.

Our Mission
By creating a video game for children to customize their virtual pet and complete activates to help maintain their virtual pet, children will become more responsible from caring their virtual pet, and physically and mentally active through the quest activities. This is especially helpful for children that were quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic as this will keep the children occupied and break their quarantine norms by giving them something to care for and responsibility to keep them healthy, similar to having a real pet. This app was heavily inspired by games such as Talking Tom Cat as children are attracted by the interactions of a virtual character that felt lifelike. Taking those characteristics and success, we wish to design something similar that will push the children's education using interactive media such as game to help children get engage with their learning and practices.
